History
On the morning of January 2nd 1982, Dr R P Archer opened the doors of Heatherbrook Surgery then situated at 13 Barnsdale Road, Anstey Heights. He wanted to provide general health services to the population of Anstey Heights following a meeting with a minister who spoke of the need of a doctor for the local population of Anstey Heights. The vision of the practice was to provide an effective, efficient and caring local general practice. Seven years later we were outgrowing the initial premise and so in 1989 Heatherbrook Surgery moved to the present purpose built premises at 242 Astill Lodge Road. At this time Dr C K Archer became a partner and Mrs Shenna Charlton, now Practice Manager, started working at the surgery. Some time after this we started to employ a nurse to assist the practice in its work for the community.
Dr C K Archer has become a GP with special interest in Minor Surgery. In 2006 we were accredited as a Training Practice for aspiring GPs.
We have been involved in the training of medical students for several years. In January 2007, this involvement in the training of students increased with the attachment of a student to the Surgery for seven weeks to learn the art of consultation skills as well as general practice medicine.
We are grateful to several patients for becoming part of a group to meet with Drs Paul and Caroline Archer every three months to discuss ways of improving the patient experience - we call ourselves the Patient Involvement Group.
